Keeping to the path and trying to stay near each other, Deet, Tae, Valeros and Mathias slowly start to cross the fields of the haunted mansion grounds. Occasionally they see humanoid figures in the fog that stagger around. Deet senses the presence of undead and keeps her flask of holy water to hand.  Some of the figures are smaller, some are larger. They all try to remain alert in all directions as they slowly edge up the dirt road.

Eventually out of the fog steps a skeleton warrior wielding a sword. Their blades tend to bounce off the bones making a good hit difficult but Valero's sword is heavy and his arm strong. This isn't Valeros first time fighting skeletons. With a mighty swing he manages to shatter the rib cage and spine of the skeleton. The skeleton collapses on the floor in a pile of bones and dust. What Valeros doesn't realise is that the noise has attracted more of the cursed figures that walk these fields. Valeros turns to the party to see how proud they are of his mighty sword.

Before any of them can discuss what happened a new figure approaches out of the fog. This time a black skeleton, its bones shining like obsidian carrying a short sword in each hand. This skeleton is flanked by two other skeletons, these appear humanoid at first but as they appear out the the fog it is very quickly apparent that these are not humanoid, not any more at least. These skeleton's bones are covered in blood and traces of remaining flesh. This blood skeleton appears to be a monstrous amalgamation of different beasts, the head is much larger than most humanoids possibly from a troll, instead of hands the skeleton has jaws at the ends of its arms and attached to its back are 4 fairly large flails two floating on either side of the skeleton. The spiked ball on the end of the chain of these flails is fairly large as large as Deet's head. As the party raise their weapons  to defend from the skeletons they hear the jingling of chains as two more twisted blood skeletons emerge out of the fog behind them.

Deet takes up the rear guard engaging the two skeletons sneaking up on them while everyone else focuses on the main group. The black skeleton is fast, swinging its long swords again and again in quick succession. Even Valeros can only get one good swing in between the black skeletons flurry of blows. The black skeleton also seems much tougher than the skeleton Valeros defeated before, even his heavy long sword tends to just bounce off its hardened black shiny bones. It seems to take no notice even when they do get a good hit and chip off a small chunk of bone. It takes dozens of hits from Taerinar and Valeros flanking the Black skeleton to finally bring it down. In the mean time Deet and Mathias keep the 4 blood skeletons busy.

Each of the blood skeletons has 4 large flails on them attached on their back, two on each side. These flails have unusually large spiked metal balls on the end. The skeletons can grab the chains to attack with the flails but otherwise they seem to float around with their own will. The flails seem to even attack of their own will. Any time someone moves or attacks when near the skeleton the flails swing at them all on their own. When the skeleton attacks with the flails, or when they attack of their own will, two flails are swung together as a pair. The skeletons attacks are slow and clumsy almost always missing but the follow through for them is devastating. A few of the misses shatter rocks to dust effortlessly. If one were to strike it would certainly collapse a skull or break all a persons ribs.

Despite her heavy armour (at least for her) Deet is small and nimble and she dodges the skeletons spiked flails with ease. First spraying the skeletons with her holy water and then following up with her frying pan attack Deet quickly shatters the bones of the skeletons as her frying pan proves to be perfect bone shattering hammer. Mathias has a few close calls with the swinging metal spikes and his rapier seems completely ineffective against these undead monsters. He is also completely unable to disengage and position a better strike. He is able to keep two of the blood skeletons busy though until Deet and Valero's heavy weapons bring the skeletons down.

In the aftermath of the battle Mathias notices a blue glow coming from the detached skull of the black skeleton. Searching inside he finds a blue glowing disc that shimmers with magical energy. The disc fits in the palm of his had quite comfortably. The party decide to take it with them as they move on along the path deeper into the fog.
